Bioinformatics Hub

Your partner in bioinformatics: from data analysis to education, collaboration, and discovery.

About Bioinformatics Hub

> The Bioinformatics Hub serves as the pivotal nexus for Bioinformatics at the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases.

Our mission is to facilitate groundbreaking discoveries by equipping researchers with comprehensive access to state-of-the-art methods, shared resources, and an infrastructure that encourages collaborative engagement across disciplines. At the intersection of biological research and computational algorithms, the Bioinformatics Hub champions the principles of transparency, openness, and reproducibility in scientific inquiry. We are committed to fostering a research environment that not only accelerates innovation but also enhances collaboration among investigators, empowering them to challenge conventional boundaries in chronic disease research. Our vision is to ensure that all researchers, regardless of their specific domain, are provided with the essential resources and support necessary to advance their work. By fostering an inclusive and dynamic research ecosystem, we aim to drive transformative advances that improve outcomes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases.

The Bioinformatics Hub stands as a testament to our belief that by synergizing diverse expertise and cutting-edge technology, we can collectively make strides toward a healthier future. We invite you to engage with us and explore the many opportunities available through our platform as we work together to shape the future of chronic disease research.

Workflow Design

We create streamlined and reproducible bioinformatics workflows tailored to your research needs.

Method Development

We build and implement advanced, robust computational methods to tackle complex biological questions.

Data Management

We design and maintain data management plans to ensure research data are reliable, scalable, and accessible.

Community Engagement and Education

The Bioinformatics Hub delivers not only rigorous, high-quality bioinformatics analysis services, but also structured education and hands-on training sessions for UCalgary members. Through workshops and guided project support, we equip investigators with the computational literacy, methodological insight, and troubleshooting skills required to independently analyze and interpret their own data. By integrating service with education, we empower researchers to build sustainable analytical capacity and strengthen reproducibility across chronic disease research initiatives.

Graduate Science Education (GSE) Course Support

We support the GSE course MDSC 755: Principles of Microbiome Analysis. Our team develops and provides instructional materials, computational infrastructure, and a dedicated learning environment to deliver hands-on training in microbiome data analysis.

HUB (Hands-on Understanding of Bioinformatics) Workshop Series

We deliver high-quality, cutting-edge workshops that build foundational skills in bioinformatics data analysis. Our team develops and provides containerized workflows, demonstration datasets, and instructional materials so participants can reproduce each workflow using their own data. The series spans multiple data modalities, including genomics (e.g., whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing), microbiome analysis, and gene expression profiling (e.g., bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and spatial transcriptomics).
