Biography

My appointment with UCalgary is for collaborative research and teaching.  I've been involved with Global Health teaching in Ethiopia and Nicaragua and training the trainers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Indonesia and all around Alberta. Most of my research work has been consultative or on contract.

I have extensive experience in Science outreach and informal education from K-12, formerly as faculty supervisor for Let's Talk Science and with Alberta Innovates Health Solutions as Sr Scientist, program developer.

Currently I work with IndigeSTEAM Society as one of the founding board members alongside Indigenous STEM professionals.  The mission of IndigeSTEAM is the provision of Indigenous-led and culturally relevant STEM/STEAM education supporting Indigenous youth and their communities.  We also support Indigenous mentors walking in two worlds.  We provide reconciliation and reciprocity activities for non-Indigenous groups through the language of STEM.  Our vision is Two-Eyed Seeing in All Directions so we can Walk Together.

Projects

UofC Partnership

UofC is an IndigeSTEAM partner in the provision of an Indigenous youth summer STEM camp held on campus.  Older youth stay in residence; younger day campers also are on campus.  Faculties, departments, staff, students assist in the provision of tours, activities, workshops and supervision.  Participating faculties in the past include Science, Medicine, Engineering, Vet Medicine, Kinesiology, Nursing, Education, Social Sciences.

A special partnership exists with Rothney Astronomical Observatory where we are working on an annual Indigenous peoples event of story telling about the sky/heavens/space and evening under the stars.
