Part of $270.6 million investment from the Government of Alberta over the past five years for the MacKimmie Tower redevelopment, Professional Faculties Building renovation and construction of Hunter Student Commons.

It’s a smart building, providing real-time analytics on Hunter Student Commons’ energy performance.

Features solar panels on the walls, building materials that take advantage of the elements as natural heating and cooling systems.

Hunter Student Commons is named in honour of the ongoing support from the Hunter family for developing entrepreneurial thinking at the University of Calgary.

Replaces the former MacKimmie Block which opened in 1963.

Second floor is dedicated to student supports with the Registrar’s Office, which includes Enrolment Services, and the new Prospective Student Hub creating a welcoming front door for current and future UCalgary students to get the answers they need most.

Permanent home for the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, including event and collision spaces for the campus community to engage with Calgary entrepreneurs.

Features innovative classrooms to enable social work students to participate in, and observe, mock therapy sessions as part of hands-on learning.

Dramatically increases available student study spaces on campus so that all students have a place to gather, work and collaborate.
